Keep the hot side hot and the cool side cool...
Not just a catchy phrase to help sell a McDLT - it makes sense when talking about web design as well. Separating the design from the structural coding just makes good sense. When the two are separate, a small change to the Cascading Style Sheet can make vast changes across your entire website. Background or link colors can be changed site-wide with the change of a few characters, instead of paying someone to make the changes on every single page of your site.
After designing your web solution, your site will be coded using pure CSS to separate the design elements from what search engines really care about - your content. Separating these two elements keeps your source code clean and easier to scan by search engines.
How our process works...
We all like different things when it comes to design - whether it is colors, shapes, menus or even centering of copy, we are all different. Because of this, we ask our clients to surf the web for an afternoon and save the links of websites that contain something they like. That gives us a basis to work from. Your website is an intimate thing - it reflects you or your business on site, within just a few seconds - great care should be given to the design.
7 seconds?
A few years ago, designers had upwards of seven seconds to draw a user's attention to a website. With all of us spending more and more time online, I am increasingly convinced that we designers have no more than two seconds to grab a user's attention.
What does it all mean?
It means designers have to be better. Better at realizing the client's vision, and better at getting that clean design that holds no clutter for a user to be overwhelmed with. If you own a business, your website is a direct reflection of your business. You want your business to look top shelf, so you invest to ensure the correct first impression is attained - the same should be done for your web site. Most people will search for and go to your website to make their decision on whether or not to buy from you or even physically visit. Smart business people invest in their web site to garner more clientele.
